It’s been almost a month since we closed on our house and we have been busy! We are finally on the assembly side of the remodel. I think Austin and I both felt like we would be doing demo forever. We are making some serious progress now! First we ripped out the bathroom to fix some sub flooring under the tub. IMG_7170.JPGIMG_7172.JPGIMG_7185.JPGIMG_7186.JPGIMG_7187.JPGIMG_7189.JPGIMG_7219.JPGIMG_7433.JPG

The bathroom is our first priority at this point as we currently don’t have a pot to piss in. IMG_7372.JPGIMG_7590.JPG

Ellie has a pot at least.

So far, the bathroom has new electrical and sub-flooring. We’ve decided on a new layout for it and will be moving some plumbing soon. IMG_7559.JPGIMG_7560.JPG

As we started tearing out sheetrock and getting into the walls we discovered that there was almost no insulation throughout the house. We also found that the electrical wiring that was throughout the house was mostly original to when when the house was built (1940s). Obviously, we had fix both of those things. IMG_7562.JPG

Yes, I’ve actually done a tiny bit of the work! No one is ever around to take pictures when I’m working though. I’m also making most of the decisions because the only opinion Austin seems to have about these things is “whatever you think, babe.” I’m not complaining about that! We are spending almost every evening working at the house. Our poor kids have been troopers, though!IMG_7184.JPGIMG_7191.JPGIMG_7376.JPGIMG_7377.JPGIMG_7383.JPGIMG_7599.JPGIMG_7628.JPG

It seems like the only break we get from working at the house is shopping for materials. Buying our bathroom vanities was quite an adventure!IMG_7481.JPGIMG_7487.JPGIMG_7489.JPGIMG_7490.JPGIMG_7491.JPGIMG_7492.JPGIMG_7493.JPG

I probably should have emptied out the back of my car before we went shopping for those! Luckily, our kids were at Jill and Cory’s house so we were able to fit two bathroom vanities into the wagon…barely! We’ve made a few changes to doorways and it is making the house feel so much better.IMG_7522.JPGIMG_7525.JPG

We moved Ellie’s doorway because it was in a weird spot in the hallway.IMG_7840.JPG

We also opened the doorway from the living room to the hallway. Eventually, the kitchen will be open to the living room also. I’m told that the doorway from the kitchen to the mudroom has also been widened but I didn’t get to the house to see it last night. Now we are really making progress! It’s so exciting to see the rooms taking shape again. IMG_7630.JPGIMG_7629.JPGIMG_7589.JPGIMG_7624.JPGIMG_7606.JPG

Hopefully, it won’t be too much longer before we are all moved in and settled. Our realistic goal is to be in the house by Thanksgiving. Our optimistic goal is to be in the house much sooner than that. We are so excited to make this house our own and start making memories in it!
