As a rule of thumb, our family never does anything slow or boring. We decided to sell a house and have a baby on the same day. From February 5th-February 19th, we sold a house, had a baby, and bought a house. We decided to take on a few cosmetic projects at the house before we moved in. We started scraping popcorn ceilings which led to Austin wanting to put more lights up in the bathrooms. He got ambitious and jumped up in the attic to start working on that and almost immediately put a hole through the ceiling in the garage. He said he was relieved to know it was “just the garage.” A few steps further into the house, he put another hole into the ceiling of the kitchen. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Austin, my dad, and Emery got the ceilings scraped and the big boys got knock down on them. After patching Austin’s holes, that is.

After the ceilings were finished, we picked out carpet and paint colors. When I say “we” I mean that I asked Austin what he thought and he repeatedly said “whatever you think, babe.” Am I the only person who’s completely overwhelmed by paint swatch displays?! I’m so glad to be done with those decisions. If anyone wants to decorate and do my furniture shopping for me, come on over!

We had a lot of help pulling out carpet, painting, removing wallpaper, and cleaning up the mess afterwards. We had a crew that spent a week priming and painting everything. I kept myself busy trying to keep my kids as far from the mess as possible. As soon as they were finished, carpet was installed. After those things were done, we were ready to clean up our mess and start moving in. I don’t know what we’d do without handy friends who are willing to give up their time to help us with our projects! We are so grateful for all of them!

We knew that when we started working on the house we’d want to do other things while we were at it. Our list started with ceilings, painting, and new carpet. It slowly started growing as Austin walked around the house and decided that he also wanted to add more light fixtures to a few rooms, replace light switches and outlets, replace a few faucets, replace light fixtures, taking out the old doors, and put some concrete down in one of the outbuildings.

Moving in with four little kids has been an experience. I’m so thankful that Orwell is a great sleeper both day and night. I had no idea how much our other kids would love to unpack though. Every time I turned around they had unpacked another box of toys or books. They are helpful when they want to be. We are slowly getting settled in here and the kids have spent a lot of time discovering new hiding places while they play hide-and-seek here.

Also, check out Gran’s sweet mullet. 🙄

We are currently trying to find living room furniture. We are debating between a normal sectional or a super retro, velvet one. We found out this weekend that Covid has really effected furniture companies and the rate that they’re producing furniture. We were told that some of the couches we liked would take 12-16 weeks to get in. We are hosting Easter this year so we might be dusting off the folding chairs for our get together. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We are so excited for our future in this house and look forward to making memories here.
